Cytosolic NP (purine nucleoside phosphorylase) catalyzes the reversible reaction of inosine and orthophosphate to form hypoxanthine and D-ribose 1-phosphate. Chicken NP is known only as the predicted protein product of a gene found by computational analysis of the genomic DNA sequence; the reaction shown here is inferred from its better-studied human counterpart.
