MITF-M binds to E-box elements at position +182 of the BRCA1 gene as assessed by ChIP-seq in 501 melanoma cells (Strub et al, 2011, Beuret et al, 2011). Silencing of MITF with siRNA inhibits BRCA1 expression (Strub et al, 2011; Beuret et al, 2011). BRCA1 contributes to the MITF-dependent DNA damage and repair response (reviewed in Goding and Arnheiter, 2019).
