Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) phosphorylates CLOCK on serine-451 and serine-461 (assayed with mouse Cdk5 and human CLOCK in Kwak et al. 2013). The phosphorylation causes nuclear translocation of CLOCK and increases transcriptional activation by the BMAL1:CLOCK complex (Kwak et al. 2013).
