The transcription factor TBX3 is overexpressed in many cancers, and contributes to melanoma by directly repressing CDH1 gene expression, thus contributing to changes in motility and invasiveness (Rodriguez et al, 2008; Bosserhoff et al, 2011). AKT3-dependent phosphorylation of TBX3 increases its ability to repress transcription at the CDH1 promoter (Peres and Prince, 2013; Peres et al, 2010; Peres et al, 2015; Peres et al, 2021).
