ZEB1 recruits a corepressor protein TLE1 (Transducin-like enhancer of split 1) to the CDH1 gene promoter (Yao et al. 2016, Yao et al. 2017), leading to its deacetylation (Yao et al. 2017). TLE1 was previously shown to recruit histone deacetylase HDAC1 to the human CDH1 gene promoter (Yao et al. 2014), and ZEB1 was also shown to recruit HDAC1 and HDAC2 to the CDH1 gene promoter (Aghdassi et al. 2012).
