ZEB1 is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor. Through its repression of the CDH1 gene (E-cadherin), ZEB1 promotes epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT; Sanchez-Tillo et al 2010). ZEB1 has itself been identified as a potential direct target of MITF-dependent repression by CUT-and-RUN and ChIP-seq analysis (Laurette et al, 2015; Webster et al, 2014; Dilshat et al, 2021), in this way contributing to the role of MITF in regulating EMT (Dilshat et al, 2021).
