SERPINE1 was identified as a direct transcriptional target of MITF-M-dependent expression in melanoma cells as assessed by ChIP-seq, CUT-and-RUN DNA binding analysis and DNA binding motif analysis (Dilshat et al, 2021; Laurette et al, 2015; Webster et al, 2014). Knockdown of MITF-M by CRISPR or si/sh RNA results in upregulation of SERPINE1 gene expression, consistent with a role for MITF-M as a repressor at this gene (Dilshat et al, 2021).
