The Intermediate II complex ("early core") binds the Complex III subunits CYC1, UQCRC1, UQCRC2, and UQCRH, releasing UQCC3 (Guo et al., 2017; reviewed in Ndi et al., 2018; Zara et al., 2022). UQCRHL, a human paralog of UQCRH that is 97% identical, may also funciton in complex III assembly and is annotated as a candidate (Luo et al, 2020). This assembly step is inferred from its equivalent in yeast.
