PIDD1 can localize both to the nucleus and to the cytoplasm. It is not known whether ATM-mediated phosphorylation regulates PIDD1 localization, but PIDDosome formation and caspase-2 activation is thought to be predominantly cytoplasmic (Ando et al. 2012).
