text CHD2 and MYOD are required for the expression of MYOG and other myogenic genes during muscle cell differentiation (Harada et al, 2012; Kikani et al, 2016; reviewed in Esteves de Lima and Relaix, 2021). Activation of gene expression is dependent on CHD2-mediated deposition of histone H3.3, a marker associated with transcriptionally active genomic regions and often co-occurring with H3K4me3 marks (Harada et al, 2012; Wirbelauer et al, 2005; Ng and Gurdon, 2008; Goldberg et al, 2010). The CHD2-dependent deposition of H3.3 is consistent with previously studied roles for CHD1 and CHD2 in regulating H3.3 biology in other species (Siggens et al, 2015; Korev et al, 2007). The chromatin remodelling activity of CHD2 is dependent on the presence of ATP and on a functional CHD2 ATPase domain (Liu et al, 2015).
