text The SCF ubiquitin E3 ligase complex FBXL21:CUL1:SKP1:RBX1 polyubiquitinylates CRY1 on lysine-107 and, by inference, CRY2 on lysine-126 (inferred from mouse homologs). The E2 complexes Ub:UBE2D1, Ub:UBE2D3 but not Ub:UBE2N can serve as donors of ubiquitin in vitro (inferred from mouse homologs). In the cytosol, FBXL21 promotes degradation of CRY proteins, therefore the linkage between ubiquitin subunits may occur at lysine-48 (K48) of ubiquitin in the cytosol (inferred from the mouse homolog). In the nucleus, FBXL21 inhibits FBXL3-dependent degradation of CRY proteins through an uncharacterized mechanism that may involve a non-K48 linkage between ubiquitin subunits (inferred from mouse homologs).
