text The ChuA receptor of pathogenic E.coli (UPEC) imports heme to the periplasm. It belongs to the TonB-dependent receptors. Needed energy probably comes from the TonB:ExbB:ExbD receptor energizer residing in the inner membrane, which uses the proton-motive force in an antiport mechanism (Torres & Payne, 1997; Torres et al., 2001; Koh et al. 2015; reviewed in Brewitz et al., 2016). In E.coli O6:H1 (UPEC) the Hma receptor has the role of ChuA (Hagan & Mobley, 2009; reviewed in Brewitz et al., 2016).
