text The REXO2 dimer hydrolyzes the 4-5 nucleotide RNAs that are produced by the PNPT1 subunit of the SUPV3L1:PNPT1 complex and yields ribonucleotides (Bruni et al. 2013, Szewczyk et al. 2020, Lin et al. 2012, inferred from mouse homologs in Nicholls et al. 2019). Depletion of REXO2 causes accumulation of short (~20 nt) RNAs as well as longer noncoding RNAs transcribed from the L-strand of the mitochondrial genome (Szewczyk et al. 2020, inferred from mouse homologs in Nicholls et al. 2019).
