text PAX2 binds upstream of the transcription start site of the PLAC8 gene and activates expression in developing nephric duct (inferred from mouse homologs in Boualia et al. 2013). Expression of Plac8 is lost in mouse embryos homozygous null for Pax2 and heterozygous null for Pax8 (Boualia et al. 2013). PLAC8 appears to regulate apoptosis and proliferation (reviewed in Mao et al. 2021).
