| text | Hira mediates incorporation of the histone H3 variant H3.3 into newly formed chromatin in the male pronucleus and Hira (Lin et al. 2014) and H3.3 (Wen et al. 2014, Kong et al. 2018) are required for further development of the zygote. Deposition of oocyte-specific H1.8 (H1foo) onto the paternal genome begins within 5 minutes after fertilization (Gao et al. 2004). H1.8 is maximally localized in nuclei at the 1-cell stage and declines so that it is absent by the blastocyst stage (Funaya et al. 2018). The H2A variant H2ax (H2a.x) is present in the female pronucleus and is deposited in newly formed nucleosomes in the male pronucleus (Nashun et al. 2010). |
