text The SRXN1 gene encodes sulfiredoxin 1, which contributes to the oxidative stress response by reducing cysteine-sulfinic bonds within PRDX1 after exposure to oxidants (Chang et al, 2004; Woo et al, 2005). SRXN1 gene expression is regulated in part by the KEAP1-NFE2L2 pathway; NFE2L2 binds to the SRXN1 promoter as assessed by ChIP to upregulate mRNA and protein levels in response to oxidative challenges (Macleod et al, 2009; Wu et al, 2011; Malhotra et al, 2010; reviewed in Baird and Yamamoto, 2020).
