| text | Myelin protein zero (Mpz) is a primary component of the myelin sheath that surrounds axons in the peripheral and central nervous system. Mpz expression in activated in the peripheral nervous system by the binding of Sox10 and Egr2, 2 key regulators of peripheral myelination, to binding sites in intron 1. Activation is facilitated by the recruitment of SMARCA4, a component of SWI/SNF chromatin remodelling complexes (Le Blanc et al, 2006; Le Blanc et al, 2007; Marathe et al, 2013). Sox10 also binds to elements in the Mpz promoter (Peirano et al, 2000). |
