text Upon binding to the p53 response element in the promoter of the caspase-1 (CASP1) gene, TP53 (p53), TP63 (p63) or TP73 (p73) stimulates transcription of CASP1 (Gupta et al. 2001, Jain et al. 2005, Celardo et al. 2013). CASP1 acts as the interleukin-1 beta (IL1B) converting enzyme (Cerretti et al. 1992) and is involved in the inflammation-related cell death - pyroptosis (Miura et al. 1993, Brough and Rothwell 2007).
