text Activated arylsulfatase A (ARSA) is one of many lysosomal enzymes bearing phosphomannosyl (M6P) residues. Cation-dependent mannose-6-phosphate receptor (M6PR) binds to M6P on ARSA. The resulting receptor-ligand complex is transported to an acidic pre-lysosomal compartment where the low pH mediates the dissociation of the complex (Stein et al., 1987; Gieselmann et al., 1992).
