text Plasminogen reversibly binds histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG). The resulting complex interacts poorly with fibrin, suggesting that HRG might have an anti-fibrinolytic (clot-stabilizing) effect in vivo (Lijnen et al. 1980). Consistent with this suggestion, individuals with chronically reduced plasma HRG concentrations are susceptible to thrombosis (Shigekiyo et al. 1998).
