Npas4 stimulates Syt10 gene expression
In rat primary neurons, Npas4 directly activates Syt10 gene transcription (Woitecki et al. 2016). The Syt10 gene encodes Synaptotagmin-10, a Ca2+ sensor required for Ca2+-dependent exocytosis of secretory vesicles in neurons. Syt10 was identified as one of the core activity-regulated inhibitors of death (AID) genes, that exhibit neuroprotective effect by preventing excitotoxicity-induced neuronal cell death (Woitecki et al. 2016).
