Mecp2 mRNA translation is inhibited by miR-132
Rat miR-132 reduces both mRNA and protein levels of Mecp2. miR-132 is therefore expected to function in the context of the endonucleolytic RISC, and possibly also non-endonucleolytic RISC. MicroRNA miR-132 is complementary to the 3'UTR of long Mecp2 transcripts (>10 kb), which are predominantly expressed in the brain (Su et al. 2015).
