In rat cytosol, cystathionine gamma-lyase (Cth) homotetramer is involved in the hydrolysis of selenocystathionine (SeCysta) into selenocysteine (Sec), ammonia and 2-oxobutanoic acid by an alpha,gamma-elimination reaction (Esaki et al. 1981).
