Phosphorylated Akt1 phosphorylates Connexin-43 (Gja1)
Akt1 phosphorylated in response to mechanical loading directly phosphorylates Connexin43 (Cx43, Gja1) on serine-373 and integrin alpha5 (Itga5) on an unknown residue (Batra et al. 2014). Phosphorylation of the hexameric Gja1 hemichannel enhances its interaction with Itga5 and also enhances the opening of its pore, resulting in an efflux of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and ATP (Batra et al. 2014).
