Smad1:Smad4 trimer binds Znf423
In the mouse adipose lineages, bone morphogenic protein Bmp7, known as the brown fat determination factor, stimulates formation of an active SMAD heterotrimer composed of two molecules of phosphorylated Smad1 and one molecule of Smad4 that binds to Znf423 transcription factor. Binding of Znf423 to the Bmp7-induced complex of Smad1 and Smad4 interferes with association of Znf423 with the Ebf2 transcription factor (Shao et al. 2016).
