Snai1 binds the Cdh1 (E-Cadherin) gene
Snail1 (Snai1) protein binds the promoter of the E-Cadherin (Cdh1) gene and represses expression of Cdh1 (Cano et al. 2000). Repression of Cdh1 by Snai1 results in a reduction in Cdh1 protein at the plasma membrane that causes loss of contact between epithelial cells during the epithelial to mesenchyme transition that is required for mesoderm formation (Carver et al. 2001).
