Expression of Isl1 in cardiogenesis
The Isl1 gene is transcribed to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield Isl1 protein. Transcription of Isl1 is directly activated in the second heart field (SHF) (Cai et al. 2003) by Gata4 (Kappen and Salbaum et al. 2009) and Lef1:Ctnnb1 (beta-catenin) (Lin et al. 2007). Transcription of Isl1 is positively regulated, perhaps directly, by Tbx1 (Liao et al. 2008).
