Ihh gene expression is stimulated by Runx2
Binding of mouse Runx2, presumably in complex with Cbfb, to evolutionarily conserved Runx2 binding sites in the promoter of the Ihh gene stimulates Ihh transcription. The Ihh gene encodes Indian hedgehog, which is involved in limb growth by regulating chondrocyte maturation. In mice, Runx3 is also involved in chondrocyte maturation, but it is uncertain whether this function of Runx3 is conserved in humans (Yoshida et al. 2004).
