Upon completion of polyadenylation, the cleavage and polyadenylation complex dissociates from target pre-mRNA, which enables it to catalyze another round of cleavage and polyadenylation (Zarkower and Wickens 1989: nuclear extracts of human cervical carcinoma cell line HeLa were used). This is expected to occur irrespective of the polyadenylation site (PAS) used in the pre-mRNA, including distal 3' UTR PASs.
