In T helper 1 cells (Th1 cells), TBX21 binds the super enhancer of the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha, TNF) gene (Jenner et al. 2009, Henderson et al. 2021) and upregulates expression (Jenner et al. 2009).
