The DENV immature virion localizes to exocytic vesicles via the secretory pathway (Martins et al., 2018; reviewed by Apte-Sengupta et al., 2014). A requirement for the transport is Clathrin interactor 1 (CLINT1), phosphorylated at Thr-294 by the BMP-2-inducible protein kinase (BMP2K, BIKE) (Schor et al., 2022). It has also been shown that DENV uses the secretory autophagosome pathway for egress and that this requires the Tyrosine-protein kinase LYN (Li et al., 2020). DENV also exploits autophagy vesicles for transmission by human dendritic cells (Cloherty et al., 2024; for a review on viruses and secretory autophagy see Pleet et al., 2018)

Dasatinib, a small molecule approved for the treatment of leukemia, inhibits tyrosine kinases like LYN and affects DENV virion assembly (Chu & Yang, 2007; Wispelaere et al., 2013; reviewed in García-Cárceles et al., 2022).
