NAD-dependent protein deacetylase sirtuin-3 (SIRT-3) deacetylates lysine-413 residue of IDH2, restoring its enzymatic activity. Since IDH2 is the main producer of NADPH, SIRT3 has a direct effect on the antioxidant level in mitochondria (Lombard et al., 2007; Yu et al., 2012; Chen et al., 2021; reviewed in Gao & Shen, 2023).
