Asvasiran (ALN-RSV01) is a naked siRNA targeting the RSV nucleocapsid protein. It was safe and efficient in two phase 2 trials, reducing bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome in lung transplant patients infected with RSV (Zamora et al., 2011; Gottlieb et al., 2015). In an earlier phase 2 study, asvasiran reduced the number of infected adult volunteers experimentally inoculated with RSV (DeVincenzo et al., 2010). Asvasiran is applied intranasally or as inhalation (reviewed in Loo et al., 2023).
