N mRNA is translated into nascent N (nucleoprotein) protein (Huang and Wertz 1983; Venkatesan et al. 1983) of 391 amino acids (Collins et al. 1985) and a molecular weight of ~42 kDa (Huang and Wertz 1983, Collins et al. 1985).
