The M2 gene of human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) contains two overlapping open reading frames. Both ORFs are transcribed and translated into small proteins (M2-1, M2-2) that have functions in virus replication (Collins et al, 1996; Ahmadian et al, 1999).
