SOX17 and TFAP2C bind enhancers upstream of the transcription start site of the POU5F1 (OCT4) gene (Tang et al. 2022). Additionally, TFAP2C binds an enhancer within the first intron of the POU5F1 gene (Chen et al. 2018). Deletion of the intronic enhancer reduced expression of POU5F1 in primordial germ cells differentiated in vitro (Chen et al. 2018).
