Based on studies in mouse olfactory bulb neurons, NPAS4 binds the MDM2 gene locus upon sensory stimulation (Yoshihara et al. 2014). Binding of NPAS4 heterodimerization partners, ARNT, ARNT2 and ARNTL, to the MDM2 gene has not been tested in mouse and NPAS4 heterodimers are therefore annotated as candidates. In primary cultures or rat neurons, binding of Npas4, Arnt and Arnt2 to the Mdm2 gene locus was demonstrated via high-throughput ChIP-seq (Brigidi et al. 2019).
