Based on studies in mouse, SRF (Serum response factor) binds to the promoter region of the NPAS4 gene upon neuronal excitation (Kuzniewska et al. 2016), when Srf accumulation and phosphorylation are observed (Morris et al. 1999, Herdegen et al. 1997). Two SRF binding sites are highly conserved between human and mouse NPAS4 gene promoters (Kuzniewska et al. 2016).
