Nucleoside diphosphate kinase 6 (NME6) is a mitochondrial protein (Tsuiki et al. 1999) that catalyses the reversible reaction of ribonucleoside and deoxyribonucleoside 5'-diphosphates ((d)NDP) with ATP to form the corresponding nucleoside 5'-triphosphates ((d)NTP) and ADP. NME6's protein sequence is only 34-41% identical to the five previously reported human NMEs. Its cDNA sequence includes the characteristic active site motif of a nucleoside diphosphate (NDP) kinase (Mehus et al. 1999). NME6 is lowly expressed in many human tissues, and is most abundant in kidney, prostate, ovary, intestine, and spleen.
