Homodimers of AP-2 transcription factor family members TFAP2A (AP-2 alpha) and TFAP2C (AP-2 gamma), in complex with CITED2, bind to the evolutionarily conserved AP-2 response elements in the promoter of the PITX2 gene (Bamforth et al. 2004, Li et al. 2012).
