Binding of AP-2 alpha (TFAP2A) dimer to the KIT gene promoter stimulates KIT transcription. AP-2 beta (TFAP2B) may also stimulate KIT transcription. TFAP2A and KIT levels are frequently reduced in metastatic melanoma (Huang et al. 1998).
