Phosphorylated IRF3 dimer translocated to the nucleus and interacts with the coactivator CBP/p300. This interaction prevents the export of activated IRF3 dimer from nucleus. It may also alter the conformation of the DNA binding domain of IRF3 and induce specific DNA binding of IRF3 (Sato et al, 1998; Yoneyama et al, 1998; Lin et al, 1999). The interaction is inhibited by human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) non-structural protein NS1, which binds to both IRF3 and CREBBP (Ren et al, 2011).
