schemaClass Summation
text CD5L (also called AIM) is secreted from macrophages, binds lipopolysaccharide and lipoteichoic acid of bacteria (Sarrias et al. 2005, Martinez et al. 2014) and, hence binds intact bacteria. CD5L forms circulating complexes with soluble IgM (Arai et al. 2013; Hiramoto et al. 2018, Chen et al. 2024, Wang et al. 2024), and dissociates from IgM in disease conditions such as acute or chronic kidney injury (Arai et al. 2016, Yasuda et al. 2024). CD5L interacts with the scavenger receptor CD36 on plasma membranes (inferred from mouse homologs in Kurokawa et al. 2010).
