text Nudt8 in the mitochondrial matrix catalyzes the hydrolysis of Coenzyme A (CoA-SH) to (R)-4'-phosphopantetheine (PPANT) and adenosine 3',5'-bisphosphate (PAP). The enzyme is most abundant in the kidneys, heart, brown adipose tissue, and liver and detectable at lower levels in the brain, skeletal muscle, and white adipose tissue. Its mitochondrial localization has been demonstrated by examination of cultured cells expressing tagged Nudt8 and by enzymatic assays of partially purified liver mitochondria (Kerr et al. 2019).
