text Nephronectin (Npnt) is expressed in the ureteric bud epithelium and secreted into the extracellular space where it interacts with Intergrin alpha-8 (Itga8) to regulate development of the ureteric bud. Lhx1 binds an upstream site and two sites in the 3' untranslated region of the Npnt gene to activate expression (Boualia et al. 2013). Pax2 and Pax8 also enhance expression, however this effect may indirect through the activation of Lhx1 by Pax2 and Pax8 (Boualia et al. 2013).
