text The TALDO1 gene encodes transaldolase, a dimeric enzyme that catalyzes reactions in the non-oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) and generates NADPH (reviewed in Ge et al, 2020; Smolkova et al, 2020). TALDO1 gene expression is regulated downstream of the KEAP1-NFE2L2 pathway and contributes to maintenance of redox balance and metabolic reprogramming in response to numerous oxidative and metabolic stressors. NFE2L2 binds to the anti-oxidant response element (ARE) in the TALDO1 promoter as assessed by ChIP-seq (Mitsuishi et al, 2012; reviewed in Baird and Yamamoto, 2020).
