text SARS-CoV-1 protein 6 binds to N-myc-interactor (NMI), a signaling pathway regulator involved in the innate immune system response (Cheng et al, 2015). NMI has been previously shown to be induced by IFN and to regulate IFN-dependent transcription (Zhu et al, 1999). Cheng et al also showed that protein 6 can promote the ubiquitin-dependent proteosomal degradation of NMI. It is unclear how exactly this happens and how much it contributes to suppression of the innate immune response in SARS.
