text The SREBF1 (SREBP1) gene is transcribed to yield mRNA and the mRNA is translated to yield protein. As inferred from mouse, RORA (ROR-alpha) enhances expression of SREBF1. The interaction of SREBF1 with sterol sensors INSIG1 and INSIG2 in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane regulates transactivation by SREBF1 of the genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis (reviewed in Eberle et al. 2004).
