Tbx21 and Runx3 bind the Il4 gene
Tbx21 and Runx3 bind a silencer located about 2 kb downstream of the Il4 coding region (Djuretic et al. 2007, Naoe et al. 2007, Gökmen et al. 2013), causing repression of Il4 expression (Djuretic et al. 2007, Naoe et al. 2007, Zhuang et al. 2009, Zhu et al. 2012, Gökmen et al. 2013). Il4 is an activator of Th2 differentiation, therefore Tbx21 and Runx3 act to restrict differentiation to the Th1 cell type.
