Expression of Six1 in metanephric mesenchyme
Sine oculis homolog 1 (Six1) is expressed in metanephric mesenchyme before, during, and after induction of the ureteric bud in the nephric duct (Xu et al. 2003). In mice lacking Six1 the ureteric bud fails to invade the metanephric mesenchyme and the mesenchyme apoptoses (Xu et al. 2003). Eya1 enhances expression of Six1 and expression of Six1 is reduced but not absent in mice lacking Eya1 (Xu et al. 1999).
